I have two pair of your waking shoes that I am totally happy with! I made the mistake off thinking I would get the same comfort in your hiking shoe. What a disappointment!!! I bought the same size in all three pair of shoes. When put to the test of a trail ,the hiking shoes rub the top of my instep and the second toe, next to my big toe and middle toe.

I bought these specifically because they are offered in wide, the wide version is somehow narrower than many non wide shoes of the same size, and much narrower than my old Hoka’s these replaced. They are also generally uncomfortable and after a few walks the right shoe is making a noise with every step. A big disappointment.
Anonymous –
The shoe was considerably narrower especially in the mid arch section. I typically wear a D width.

Much too narrow than a D
Sam –
The shoe is tight if you have a high instep.

Very disappointed with the fit of this shoe specifically the shoe tongue. Very tight and impossible to put on. Had to return and will look at other models.
Rock –
Yes I used the shoes. I little stiff.

I’ve been wearing SG GTX since version 4. I’ve had my new SG6 GTXs for about a week. They seem stiffer than the 5s; as a result, the 5s seem more stable–I fit *in* the 5s, but I feel like I’m “on top” of the 6s, which I don’t like as much. The 5s felt like they adhered to the surface–trail, rocks, beach– for running and for walking through sloppy stuff in wet weather. The 6s feel more like hiking boots, with their stiffer, less flexible sole. I adopted a more cushioned insole (Powerstep) than my usual Superfeet green to compensate.
I suppose the 6’s might wear longer–some people knocked the 5s because they wore out, but I didn’t mind because they did their job superlatively. I don’t like them *too* flexible (like Asics Kayanos) but I appreciate the cushion for running and walking as my feet are kind of beat up but I’m not done with them yet. I haven’t tried these on a hike yet, so possibly I’d appreciate the stiffness more; I use them for walking (5+ miles most days) and some running (usually 3 miles a few times a week; though I use other shoes as well). These actually feel a lot more like my Asics GT2000 GTXs, which use primarily for running.
I also notice that, with being stiffer, the sole seems to drop under my toes more–making my walks more like rocking steps. Don’t like this so much.
I may give these another week of intensive trial but at this point I am considering returning them and getting a pair of 5s.

Design:
The colorways are awesome. I went for the “purple rain” themed ones. I have other hokas but this is the only pair that receieves constant compliments. Not sure if it’s the design or colorway but these are my favorite:
Comfort:
I feel no discomfort when wearing them for ~2 hours at the gym. I’ll do some yoga and power lifting during this time frame.
Things change when I’m running. Slightly. I start off with a slight jog. Shoes feel awesome. I feel light on my feet yet in control of every step I take. Not sure if it’s their marketing playing tricks on me but with every step I take I feel like a literal goat. This peak performance dwindles around ~5 miles. Once I finish my run at the ~10 mile run, I still feel agile but with less control. This is because the shoe’s tigthness towards the front start to numb my feet. It’s nothing crazy. I’m always looking forward to my next run but this is the only complain I have.

I absolutely love these shoes! I am a runner, and I have always struggled to find comfortable running shoes that can take my long 4 mile runs. These shoes make running much easier- it’s like running on clouds, literally.

These are too tight and I have had two older Speedgoat shoes that fit great.
I need to return these even though I have had the same size in the past.

My 8th pair of Hoka (over 6yrs) . Gortex and grip worked perfectly. My only issue was sizing. I’m consistently a size 9 the correct fitting size for these shoes(for me ) was a size 10.
Todd –
Completed 12 mile and 15 mile trail run in these shoes. Running over small rocks was amazing. I felt confident moving at a good pace. Traction and grip was good. Gore-Tex kept my toes warm. My only issue is that I got a small blister on the outside of my big toe. The toe box seems a little small.

Haven’t worn in wet conditions yet so can’t speak to waterproof capabilities. Happy with the purchase thus far, fit is spot on and shoe feels great and sole is exceptional! Interestingly, the tongue and shoe interface is very close so the shoes feel very secure even before tying laces.

Really love the new speedgoat 6. I have tried both the regular and GTX versions now. The foam on my speedgoat 5 would wear out too fast, I am a bigger runner (205lbs or so) and the shoes felt like they had no spring after 75-100 miles. With the new speedgoat 6 I am getting many more miles than I had on the 5s previously! Full disclaimer, I do use Currex insoles, not a fan on the factory ones. The tongue is more padded in the 6 and that helped tremendously with rubbing. Big fan! I’ve run in the speedgoat for years (evo 2, 3, 4, 5) and the 6 is my favorite iteration yet.
ME –
Have gone on several hikes, and they provide great support and are very comfortable.

I got the gtx for those snow covered trails. These definitely need to be broken in to. I’ve owned a pair from last year and once they were used often and broken in were much more comfortable. Definitely worth it for the winter weather and keeps your feet dry when it’s melting and muddy.
Bill –
difficult to replace shoelaces as the holes in the shoe are very small
TopEndSteve –
I Love these…Very light and sturdy. I use them for hiking while doing Wildlife photography and Golf on wet cold mornings. I also have Speed Goat 6 Mid which I feel the same way about…Great shoes.
Jj –
Over all not that comfy. I like the durability of the vibrum sole, but not on a running shoe, to stiff.
Bb –
Most uncomfortable Hokas I have. Very disappointing. Too tight.
ConradTrue –
I have been buying another brand of shoes lately but a friend recommended this shoe. So I came back to HOKA and purchased these. They are truly amazing, great support and very comfortable.
Rob –
Fit like a glove extremely responsive and went over rocks water and branches and roots with no problem definitely will be purchasing more for my out door running
Wildman –
These run about 1/2 size small. The tongue is too short. They’re too stiff without enough padding underfoot. Finally, they’re overpriced. I kept them because I can’t find anything better in a wide trail runner, as many popular brands don’t come in wide width.

wide width was more like a normal width in other shoes for me
