Bhunter23 –
I have the Torrent 2 and love them, wear them for racing. I mostly do trails with half technical half trail. There quick and precise with the lower profile but I feel every rock, twist and turn. In comes the Mafate Speed. I had very little issues with the technical parts of the trails. Because of the taller stack height and more cushion, I did have a few instances where I did not pick my foot up high enough, nothing too major though. I am sure the more I run in them I will learn just how high to lift. When I did hit some pointed and jagged rocks, I was waiting for that quick sharp intense pain that usually follows but there wasn’t anything. The cushioning did its job. I wasn’t able to let loose on the the downhill technical sections but again, I have only been out in them for a few runs. After a 13 m technical trail run my feet and legs were not beat up like with the Torrent 2’s. I will still run in my Torrents because I like the responsiveness but the Mafate Speed have that well needed cushioning that our body needs. I have run in them 4 times already and have put them to the test. The uppers and the outsoles still look like new. No signs of wear, and they have been scraped on rocks and roots, like I said, I put them to the test. When I did hit a section of just dirt and twisting 90 degree turns, it was running heaven, they performed really well. They will definitely stay in my rotation and I will purchase them again. Buy them, your feet and legs will like you for it. I take an 11.5 in the Torrent 2, Nike Vaporfly, and the 11.5in the Mafate Speed fit perfectly. True to size. Plenty room in the toebox but not too much that your foot slides around, can’t have that when your technical trail running. Background; I am 54 yr old, 5k 16:53, 10m-57:37. Hopes this review helps.

One of my new Hoka favorites. Comfy, well built and great for anything, from walking to trails. Beautiful, too. Caveat: had to go half size up like with most Hokas I got in the recent months.
ManiMan –
Best Hoka trail shoe since Mafate Evo , I’m a hardcore trail runner and have used these in rain ,mud and snow with waterproof socks and never lost traction. Fast and nimble!!
Thevl1 –
Have about three hundred miles in my first pair. 100 % trails, mostly mountainous and rocky. Super comfy, no feet issues, good grip, and fast drying. What else could you ask for.
Patrick –
Fit is great though it took about 10 miles or so for them to feel very good. This was atypical from road running Hokas I’ve had in the past. Love them now though!

These were very large. And extremely wide making my foot feel enormous. They were very comfortable as long as you don’t care to look down at your feet.

2nd pair, feel like the old pair right of the box!
Consistency consistency..consistency

I was a little hesitant with these due to the price, but they are worth every penny. They are possibly the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. I walk 4 miles every morning. I’ve worn Brooks, ON, Hokas, and more. The Mafate cushions and supports every part of your foot. I had the Speedgoat, but had to return them because there was a pressure across the laces that was killing the top of my foot. If you walk or hike frequently for exercise, you will not be disappointed. These are true to size and have ample room in the toe box, superior support in the heel, and arches feel great. Get them!

I’ve been a big fan of the speedgoat 3-5 but the Mafate 4 has a little more support and is not as squishy when you step on an uneven surface. They fit my feet perfectly. I highly recommend trying them.
Rick –
These are probably the most comfortable shoes I own. I am actually going to be ordering another pair. I hope my next pair of hokas are just as good or better than the first.
Shoes C –
I like Hoka for everyday wear. Walking, Hiking and any other activity.
Unlike one pair of shoes that went to Apple Valley CA, I do not live there but a pair of my shoes I paid for were delivered to that place.

It’s my first pair of Hoka shoes and I’m very impressed. I would recommend them to anyone. I love all of the colors and styles of shoes Hoka offers.
EBC T –
Perfect! Used these to hike the EBC trek and with no poles. The trek is rocky, steep in many sections, full of “stairs” or steps built into the rocky terrain. As you get higher, plenty of loose rock. Best part is the Mafate Speed 4 were the perfect companion.

I’ve loved these for trail running, and the first pair I had were great. I picked up a new pair for the Wonderland Trail (93 miles around Mt. Rainier). I tried these on an 8 mile run the week before the Wonderland trip and then had an eyelet rip out at mile 5 into the 93 miles. Hoka kindly replaced them post trip on Warranty. I had poked a new hole for the eyelet much further back from the material edge to get through the rest of the trip, it worked but the new fit wasn’t the best.. I’ve got maybe 50 miles on the replacements and had two eyelets rip out today mid trail run. I’ve had a dozen pairs of Hokas (and lots of other brands prior to this) and never had this happen before. I am very disappointed and not sure I want another pair if they are going to keep ripping out. Great shoe – eyelet durability for me – unacceptable.

HOKA strikes again!
While I am a fan of HOKAs, in general, I wanted to specifically call out the outsoles on the bottom of these beauties. As I walk, run, or hike, I can feel the outsoles almost gripping the ground I’m walking. These also have phenomenal arch support and the classic pops of color in all the right places. Highly recommended for people who are looking for a stellar sneaker experience!
Papa –
I got these shoes leading up to my spartan beast. I have logged in over 40+ miles on hard trail and they are amazing. Comfort, fantastic grip and the best trail shoe I have ever purchased. I hope Hoka continues to keep this shoe alive as I think it is perfect. Lots of half marathons in these and feet never hurt. Keep it up Hoka!
Cindy –
I need a wide shoe and this shoe feels just right Men’s 10D
BC C –
Great fit, lightweight, and outstanding traction. Has been outstanding on snow covered roads and trails thus far.
Theblueturaco –
My wife continued to rave about the Mafate Speed line, so I decided to give them a try. They seemed a bit big at first, but after a few trail runs, they feel perfect on my feet. Just did 11 miles in them this morning. The traction and comfort are both incredible. I love Hoka’s quirky color schemes, which other companies are too scared to try. The laces are even amazing, allowing such a perfectly snug fit.
Wally G –
The shoes look fantastic. My 13 year old Grandson tried them on. He really likes them. Says they feel good on his feet.
Jbotts1 –
I use this shoe for hiking and as a golf shoe. Preforms excellent for both activities.
SeldomSeen –
I’ve got about 50 miles on the Hoka Mafate Speed 4 now and so far and I really like them. For me, they fit much better than the Speedgoat. The traction is excellent and they are very comfortable. They seem to be good quality and I hope to get many, many miles on them.
Randylee –
I bought this shoe for trail hiking and jogging. I was hoping they would also work well on the treadmill, and they do. Very comfortable, with lots of support. They fit exactly as expected.
HootieWho –
I purchased these shoes to play golf while walking 18 holes 4 times a week. They are better than all similar priced “golf shoes” I have ever owened.
